April Tangle-A-Day Calendar to the 15th

I’m a bit behind in posting my calendar for this month. Here are the tangles so far (15 of them): Sassanian, Junction, Antirrhinum, Jitterz, Anemone Japonica, Pear Drops, Bladz, Koryl, BeezWacks, Endlos, All about “V”, Hypnotic, Use, Unbatz, and Eyehook.

Thanks for visiting. Please leave me a comment if you find my monthly tangle calendars useful.

Zendala Dare

At CZT Erin’s blog, The Bright Owl, she has started to post Zendala challenges. A Zendala is a combination ofĀ mandalaĀ and Zentangle. I will have to admit, I have had a fear of trying a Zendala. I have my kit of round, pre-strung and blank tiles, but every time I take one out, my mind closes up.

So when I saw Erin’s Zendala Dare challenge, I felt that this was a message to get over my terrorĀ apprehensionĀ and get on with it!

I decided to compromise and use a (familiar and comfortable-to-me) square Zentangle tile, and I used the graphite pencil transfer method to draw Erin’s Zendala string. Then I looked at her wonderful examples and and lovely Zendalas posted by others, and launched into tangling on the tile.

I found it to be quite fun (although I felt a little stumped at what tangle to use next, but that is nothing new) and I am pleased with the results.

Thanks, Erin, for the impetus to move me into Zendala land!

New Zentangle Class Scheduled

I’ll be teaching an introductory Zentangle class on Saturday, May 5 from 1 to 3 pm at the Jutila Center (the old Portage Hospital), 200 Michigan Street in Hancock. The class will be in conference room on the main floor (technically the 3rd floor) of the building’s south side.

The cost is $35, which includes a Zentangle mini-kit to take home. I will also have a few raffle prizes to give away.

If you’ve been curious about Zentangle, this is a great way to check it out!

More Fifth Grade Tangles

I returned for my second visit to the Houghton Elementary School’s Fifth Grade Art Class (teacher: Melissa Hronkin) to continue teaching the Zentangle process. The students again “got into it,” as you can see from these pictures. It was a real pleasure and a joy to teach these young artists.

You may recognize the tangles: Florz, Crescent Moon, Printemps, and Fracas.

Fifth Grade Tanglers!

On Wednesday, March 21, 2012, I had the pleasure of teaching Zentangle to two classes of Houghton Elementary School Fifth Graders. All the students were enthusiastic and attentive, and, as you can see, very creative. I look forward to continuing our Zentangle experience on March 28th, and can’t wait to see what artisticĀ creationsĀ they come up with! Thanks to the elementary school art teacher, Melissa Hronkin for inviting me to teach this fun group of kids. (Sorry for the variable quality in the photos)
