Here’s the entire November calendar. In addition to finishing up the days, I filled in the extra squares as well (can’t stand an empty space: It MUST be tangled!). My latest additions: Ribbon Bows, Popsicles, Snaylz Trayl (and a variation), Afterglow, Coaster, Voxter, and HekZee.

Now, on to December!

Tangled 3D Paper Star

27 Sunday Nov 2011

I found a template for making a 3D star out of cardstock and thought this would be a wonderful item to tangle upon. Then I thought I could make two of them and glue/stick them together to make it a full 3D star.

The tangling part was easy. I used the star segments in the template for the string. You could also use the unmarked side of the template and draw your own string.

When I cut out one of the stars, I left little gluing tabs on each side of the star segment. Then the fussy part, trying to attach one star to the other. I used double sided tape on the tabs, but just like the icosahedron it was difficult to get them to attach. In addition, the star sides didn’t line up “perfectly.”

If you didn’t want to fuss with the two sided star, a one sided 3D star would still make a pretty decoration for a gift or have plenty of other uses.

Have fun!

Zentangle Weekly Challenge #49: “Red Thread Challenge”

This week at I am the Diva’s blog, guest challenger, Cris Letournea, CZT  (Tangled Up in Art ) tells us about The Red Thread Promise, a organization that provides medical care for orphans. This is the inspiration for the challenge – to make a black and white tile with “a single red thread” running through it.

The thread part inspired me to use a variation of the tangle, Floatfest, which reminds me of a bunch of looped threads. Also on this tile are Purk and Sez.

Thanks, Cris and Laura, for this weeks’ interesting challenge.

Zentangle Challenge #48: String Theory v. VII: “Tri-Shapes”:

17 Thursday Nov 2011

This week’s I am the Diva challenge (from guest Sue Clark, CZT – her blog is here) is to use the shapes of a square, circle, and triangle as the string and for an added challenge to “tri” tangles that you have never used before. This one was hard for me and this is my second attempt. I used Gneiss, a variation of Squill, and Patena. I’m still working my way through all of the “official” Zentangle patterns, and these are three more I can check off the list.

Thanks for the challenge, Laura and Sue, I always end up “tri-ing” something new. 🙂

Zentangle: “How do I love thee” and Diva Giveaway

Congratulations to the “I am the diva” who is celebrating 200,000 site visits and is having a giveaway (go over and enter it, if you haven’t already!). Here is my response to her question:

Since you posted the giveaway and the question about how Zentangle has enhanced my life, the quote “How do I love thee, let me count the ways” has been in my head.
I have loved Zentangle since I was first introduced to it this Spring. My sister showed me the website, I asked for the kit for my birthday, and after it arrived, I was hooked. I have always had a desire to draw, but never have had any training. When I would try, using books or lessons on the internet, my results were always unsatisfactory. I felt discouraged and just resigned myself to the idea that I had no artistic talent.
The Zentangle process helped give me the structure, gentle, nonjudgmental guidance and beautiful tools and materials to allow my creativity to be revealed. I can now say I do have artistic talent and I can draw.
I am so pleased and enthusiastic about the Zentangle process, that both my sister and I attended the CZT training this past Fall. I am looking forward to teaching my first class and sharing this experience with others.
Thanks, Laura, for your wonderful, inspiring site. Congratulations on your milestone and thanks for having a very generous giveaway. And thanks mostly to Maria and Rick for bringing Zentangle to the world.

Tangled Icosahedron

IcosahedronCris, a CZT, posted a picture of her Icosahedron pattern in the CZT Yahoo group. She uses it as a raffle prize for some of her classes. I love this idea, so I figured out how to do one myself. I searched the web and found this site for a pattern. I copied the image and pasted it into a Word document and stretched it out to make it as big as the page would allow. I then printed it out on plain copy paper, tangled on it, and then copied it onto cardstock. Some cutting, folding, and pasting, and there you go, a Tangled Icosahedron! Thanks, Cris, for the inspiration.
